Dilemmas and Pathways of Empowering Common Prosperity through the Maritime Silk Road Culture from the Perspective of Coastal Villages

Objective/Meaning The Maritime Silk Road culture is a unique cultural resource of coastal villages. Exploring its internal logic, practical dilemmas, and optimal pathways for empowering common prosperity holds significant strategic importance for revitalizing rural economies, cultivating cultural confidence, and promoting social harmony.

Methods/Procedures This study adopts literature analysis and field research methods, taking the villages of Quanzhou in Fujian Province as the research object. It systematically examines the triple value implications of the Maritime Silk Road culture: the ethics of risk sharing, affectively embedded capital, and the tradition of justice-based self-governance. Furthermore, it conducts an in-depth analysis of structural dilemmas such as the disruption of inheritance chains, social cognitive biases, and institutional supply obstacles.

Results/Conclusions Through the synergistic advancement of three aspects—repairing the inheritance chain, activating social capital, and improving institutional safeguards—the Maritime Silk Road culture can be effectively transformed into incremental resources for rural common prosperity. Practical pathways are proposed, including cultivating a new generation of inheritors, protecting cultural spaces, strengthening the “affective embeddedness” of overseas Chinese capital, building a common prosperity credit system, and improving cross-regional planning and diversified investment and financing mechanisms. This study provides theoretical references and diversified investment and financing mechanisms.
