The Effect of Pension Insurance on Rural Residents’ Willingness to Delay RetirementAnalysis Based on CHARLS Data

  • Objective/Significance Population aging is a serious problem facing our country. By analyzing the impact of pension insurance on the willingness to delay retirement, we encourage the majority of rural residents to stay in the labor market, and develop and utilize the elderly human resources, which can help reduce the burden of pension and better implement the policy of delaying retirement. It meets the needs of current national conditions in China.
Methods/Process Based on the relevant data of China Health and Retirement Tracking Survey (CHARLS) in 2020, this paper adopted binary Logistics regression and OLS regression analysis methods to analyze the rural residents’ willingness to delay retirement and their planned retirement age.
Result/Conclusion It is found that the pension insurance has a significant positive effect on the delayed retirement intention and planned retirement age of rural residents in China. In addition, for rural residents of different genders and regions, the positive effect of pension insurance on their willingness to delay retirement has certain differences, and the significance of male and eastern and western regions is higher. Based on this, the paper puts forward some policy suggestions, such as gradually implementing the delayed retirement policy, setting up incentive and guidance mechanism, guaranteeing workers' suggestions and formulating targeted delayed retirement plans.
