Practice and Exploration on the Development of the Phalaenopsis Industry in Zhangpu County from the Perspective of Fujian-Taiwan Integration

Objective/Meaning  As the core area of Chinese mainland to undertake the transfer of Phalaenopsis industry in Taiwan, Zhangpu County has formed a development pattern of in-depth integration of cross-strait industries by relying on the advantages of geographical proximity, blood ties and cultural affinity between Fujian and Taiwan. The Phalaenopsis aphrodite industry is the most representative advantageous characteristic industry in Zhangpu County, and the essence of its development process is a practical sample of the integration of agricultural industry between Fujian and Taiwan, which plays a dual important role in promoting the county-level agricultural modernization, rural revitalization and deepening the cross-strait economic integration.

Methods/Procedures  In this study, the development foundation and practice status of Phalaenopsis aphrodite industry in Zhangpu County under the background of the integration of Fujian and Taiwan were systematically sorted out. And it focused on the analysis of the industrial foundation, scale expansion, system construction and technological innovation of the cross-strait cooperation.

Results/Conclusions  The study found that the cooperation between Fujian and Taiwan had significant synergistic effect in variety research and development, technology promotion and market expansion. However, during the rapid development of the industry, it still faced the common problems such as the difficulties in the concentrated and contiguous land development, the aging of production facilities, the intensification of industry competition, and the imperfect supporting service system. It also had unique shortcomings such as unsound industrial integration mechanism between Fujian and Taiwan, unsmooth factor flow, and insufficient collaborative innovation, which restricted the improvement of industrial efficiency and competitiveness. Therefore, some countermeasures were put forward, such as deepening the in-depth integration of Zhangpu-Taiwan industries, strengthening the cross-strait collaborative technological empowerment, expanding diversified markets, and cultivating the regional brands co-built by Fujian and Taiwan.
