Abstract:
Objective/Meaning The construction of digital villages is an important path to achieving the common prosperity. In this paper, the impact and path of digital village construction on common prosperity was explored, in order to provide reference for promoting the Chinese-style modernization and realizing the strategic goal of common prosperity.
Methods/Procedures Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2012 to 2022, the fixed effect model, mediating effect model and threshold effect model were used to conduct the empirical test to study the impact of digital village construction on common prosperity, as well as the mediating role of new quality productivity and the spatial heterogeneity between major grain-producing areas and non-major grain-producing areas.
Results/Conclusions The study showed that: (1) The digital village construction had a significant positive impact on common prosperity. After a series of robustness tests and the elimination of endogeneity problems, this conclusion remained valid. (2) The new quality productivity played a mediating role in the positive impact of digital village construction on common prosperity. (3) The impact of digital village construction on common prosperity had the nonlinear characteristics of diminishing marginal effect. (4) The promotion effect of digital village construction on the common prosperity was influenced by regional characteristics or grain production and sales features. Therefore, the future efforts should focus on improving the digital infrastructure and environment to release the potential of digital rural construction in promoting the common prosperity; promoting the construction of digital villages according to local conditions; and giving full play to the mediating role of new quality productivity to overcome the bottleneck of marginal utility in the process of common prosperity.
