Objective/Meaning With the improvement of people’s material life, the rural homestay has become an important engine to promote the development of rural tourism and rural revitalization. Exploring the development status and prospect of rural homestay can provide theoretical and practical references for promoting the high-quality development of rural tourism and laying solid foundation for rural revitalization.

Methods/Procedures The SWOT-PEST matrix analytic method was used to analyze the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities and threats of rural homestay development in Turpan of Xinjiang in the four environmental factors of politics, economy, society and technology, and then the countermeasures were put forward accordingly.

Results/Conclusions The study showed that: the development trend of rural homestay in Turpan was good, but there were still some problems, such as the imperfect infrastructure, insufficient policies and laws, homogenization of homestay quality, and low quality of homestay employees. Therefore, the development of rural homestay in Turpan of Xinjiang could be promoted by improving the relevant policies and laws, standing on the advantages of local homestay development, and maintaining a benign market environment of homestay, so as to accelerate the pace of rural revitalization in Turpan of Xinjiang.
