Objective/Meaning  The pastoral complex is the carrier of the effective implementation of the rural revitalization strategy, and also an important starting point to promote the reform of the agricultural supply side. By summarizing and analyzing the development path and mode of the pastoral complex model, the case practice and experience reference were provided for building the pastoral complex with its own characteristics in different regions of China.

  Methods/Procedures  Through the analysis of the concept of new pastoralism, the construction and operation status of the first batch of 17 pastoral complexes in Guilin were systematically sorted out. Then, based on the field investigation and data collation, the development stage, main characteristics and construction mode of the pastoral complex in Guilin were analyzed and summarized.

  Results/Conclusions  The results showed that the construction of pastoral complex in Guilin was still in the initial stage, and the government leading occupied a large proportion. The main types and construction modes included five types, such as the agriculture-based type, scenic spot-driven type, urban-based type, cultural-based type, and experience-based type. In view of the problems existing in the construction and operation of different types of pastoral complex, the strategies for the development of pastoral complex in Guilin in the future were put forward, including promoting the integration of three industries according to the local conditions, constantly innovating the land use mechanism, building the professional team of management talents, and excavating the local culture to build the local characteristic brand, etc.
