Abstract:
Objective/Meaning Through the analysis on the impact of peer effect on the urbanization willingness of migrant workers, it would speed up the urbanization process of migrant workers and provide new ideas for promoting the development of urbanization in China.
Methods/Procedures Based on the data from the dynamic monitoring survey of Health and Family Planning of China’s floating population in 2017, the influence of peer effect on the willingness of migrant workers to become citizens was explored.
Results/Conclusions The results showed that the peer effect had a significant positive effect on the willingness of migrant workers to become citizens. If divided by city levels, it was found that the peer effect coefficient of migrant workers in first-tier cities was obviously larger than that in second-tier and third-tier cities. In addition, the further research also found that the social integration had certain mediating effect in the peer effect on the urbanization willingness of migrant workers, and its internal logic was “peer effect → social integration → urbanization willingness”. Therefore, it was necessary to give full play to the community power, expand the social circle of migrant workers, encourage migrant workers to actively interact with local citizens, break down the barriers between migrant workers and local citizens, and strengthen the sense of identity of migrant workers, in order to enhance the willingness of migrant workers to become citizens.
