Abstract: The main feature of ancient villages in southern Fujian is that there is strong local flavor and unique antique sensibility in southern Fujian. But in the development process of ancient villages, the excessive modern popular elements have resulted in the loss of humane connotations and moral feelings. The reasons are that the consciousness of community participation in the development of ancient villages is weak, and the community residents benefit little from the development. Based on the thorough investigation of ancient villages in southern Fujian, the validity of community participation in the development of ancient villages in southern Fujian was analyzed and evaluated by using the analytic hierarchy process in this paper. Then, according to the existing obstacles of community participation in the development of ancient villages in southern Fujian, the development strategies were proposed which were people-oriented, propaganda-guided, responsibility-centered, culture-originated and benefit-sharing, thus to raise the subjective consciousness of community participation and promote the sustainable development of ancient villages.
